Marmot discovery path

Hike along the marmot discovery path. On the route between the chairlift Schönbiel or Wurzenbord dupper station and Bettmersee (lake), you will find four information stations that provide you with a lot of thrilling facts about the rodents. In the chairlift, you might even get to see or hear marmots from a bird's eye view. Once you've reached the upper station Schönbiel or Wurzenbord, it's time to start! If conditions are favorable, you will be able to observe the marmots. The alpine pastures above Bettmeralp are full of the little creatures. But that doesn't mean we are at the zoo. We still have to watch and listen carefully!
Special tickets called "In the marmots' empire" can be bought from Bettmeralp Bahnen cableways. The price includes the ride from Betten lower station to Bettmeralp and back and a one-way trip in the chairlift Schönbiel or Wurzenbord.
(1 hour hiking time)
Free flyer available at the Tourist Office.

Culture discovery path

The route leads from Bettmeralp to Betten-Dorf. It passes by the Ried and Domo mountain pastures alongside some beautiful alpine meadows to reach the mountain village of Betten in approx. 2 ½ hours.
The mountain pastures give you an idea how the residents used to live. On 9 information boards, Aletscha and Aletschander (two local kids) tell the story in words and pictures of how life was back then, living between village and alp.
With its black larch houses, Betten epitomizes a typical Valaisian village and is well worth a closer look.
From Betten you can take the cable car which leads conveniently up to Bettmeralp.
Free flyer available at the Tourist Office.

Forest Discovery Path

The forest is an elementary part of our life. It shelters a multitude of plants and animals, it provides us with space for leisure and recreation, by using timber we gain an extremely versatile raw material and it protects us from forces of nature. In Bettmeralp, on the "Schutz Wald Mensch" (Protection Forest Man) discovery path you will encounter traces of such forces of nature and experience in an impressive way how a protection forest functions. We hope that this experience will help anchor the significance of the protection forest in our thoughts and actions enduringly.
Free flyer available at the Tourist Office.
